Maturation

 

Waldviertler Whisky J.H. is stored in barrels made from Manhartsberg summer oak or sessile oak (local oak). The whisky is aged in barrels three seperate times before it is ready for consumption. This gives the whisky its mild vanilla note.

 

Storage period:

Initial filling min. 3-4 years
Second filling 5-6 years
The barrels are toasted again prior to the third filling; storage period 8 to 12 years.
The oldest bottlings in our distillery are 10 years old (As of April 2015).

 

Following storage the whisky is diluted to a drinking strength of (41% Vol.).
For whisky connoisseurs and enthusiasts there are also vintage years at cask strength (50 to  60% Vol.) and selected bottlings or selections (46 %).
